AM General, Kalyani Target Global Market for Mobile Artillery Systems

AM General has collaborated with India’s Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) to offer next-generation artillery systems for international military customers.

The partnership will revolve around the KSSL Mounted Artillery Gun (MArG) platform, which was introduced in 2025 as the world’s first 155mm ground weapon integrated onto a 4×4 high-mobility vehicle.

Planned products under the arrangement are set to offer compact and lightweight architecture that can be fielded across various terrains and weather conditions.

KSSL’s MArG is mounted on a 9-meter (30-foot) vehicle operated by a crew of six. It could weigh up to 24 tonnes (52,911 pounds), depending on its configuration.

The weapon can be set in a burst mode of three shots in 30 seconds and a sustained fire rate of up to 42 shots in an hour.

The artillery supports 39, 25, and 52 caliber guns and has a range of more than 40 kilometers (25 miles).

Mobile Tactical Cannon Bid

In addition to the business venture, the companies also aim to expand their long-term industrial relationship by sending a MArG-based proposal to the US Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) program.

MTC aims to replace the military’s aging M777 155mm towed howitzer with over 400 modern wheeled artillery systems starting in 2027.

The industry anticipates Washington to award the contract for that initiative by July 2026.

The consortium said that the large-scale partnership reflects the firms’ confidence in delivering mission-ready capabilities for evolving battlespaces.
