The United States on Wednesday announced the approval of a $1.5 billion sale of 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment to Austria.
“The proposed sale will improve Austria’s capability to deter current and future threats and support coalition operations and the United States’ and Austria’s goal of greater military interoperability,” the US State Department said in a statement.
It “will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a partner that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the statement added.
The State Department has notified Congress about the proposed sale, which would need to be approved by lawmakers.
