Spanish defense firm EM&E Group has secured a contract to supply 47 naval weapon stations to the Portuguese Navy through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
The deal marks EM&E’s first major contract managed through NSPA and expands the company’s footprint in the European naval defense market.
Under the agreement, EM&E will deliver SENTINEL 2.0 and SENTINEL 30 remote weapon stations in 12.7mm and 30mm configurations. The systems will be supplied in two phases.
Designed for naval platforms, the weapon stations allow crews to engage threats remotely while improving protection and situational awareness.
EM&E said the systems have already been deployed aboard Spanish Navy vessels and in other international naval programs.
Portugal Boosts Naval Capabilities
The weapon station contract follows several major naval programs launched by Portugal in recent years.
The country is set to become home to Europe’s first drone carrier warship, with the NRP João II built by Damen scheduled for delivery to the Portuguese Navy in the second half of 2026.
Lisbon is also participating in the European Defence Agency’s Swarm of Biomimetic Underwater Vehicles project, which develops swarms of autonomous underwater vehicles for missions such as surveillance, mine countermeasures, and seabed operations in contested maritime environments.
Earlier, in November 2025, Turkey announced the start of construction of a military ship for Portugal.
