French-Ukrainian defense technology company Alta Ares, which develops AI-enabled air defense systems, has secured 50 million euros ($57 million) in a funding round to accelerate production, technology development, and international expansion.
The new capital will support workforce growth, increased manufacturing capacity in France and Ukraine, and the establishment of additional regional offices in the Middle East and Asia.
Alta Ares’s systems combine AI with automated detection, identification, and interception capabilities designed to respond to large-scale attacks involving drones, cruise missiles, and other airborne weapons.
Alta Ares’ Interceptors
Demand for air defense systems is increasing as armed forces adapt to a rapidly evolving threat environment shaped by drones and precision-guided weapons.
“NATO allies face complex, coordinated salvos, sometimes combining over 600 drones and dozens of missiles in a single night,” stated Alta Ares.
“Safeguarding airspace requires a decisive shift toward a new generation of platforms designed from inception for autonomy, modularity, and interoperability.”
The company currently offers two interceptor platforms.
The X-Lock system is designed to engage short-range threats, such as Iranian-designed Shahed attack drones, at distances up to 15 kilometers (9.3 miles).
For longer-range engagements, Alta Ares developed the Black Bird interceptor, designed to counter cruise missiles, glide bombs, and other high-speed aerial threats at ranges up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
The systems are currently operating in three active conflict zones, providing direct operational feedback that is being used to refine capabilities and accelerate development cycles.
