Navantia has secured long-term maintenance work in Saudi Arabia as the Spanish shipbuilder expands its role beyond construction into full lifecycle support for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces corvette fleet.
The company has signed a five-year follow-on support contract with the Saudi Ministry of Defence covering maintenance services for five AVANTE 2200 corvettes already delivered to the kingdom.
The agreement builds on support work that began when the first vessel entered service in 2022.
Under the contract, Navantia will deploy additional technicians to King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah, where they will support both platform and combat system maintenance. The deal also includes a new package of spare parts for the existing fleet.
Alongside the technical work, the agreement introduces a localization plan aimed at increasing in-country sustainment capacity. That includes training programs, knowledge transfer initiatives, and plans to produce selected spare parts within Saudi Arabia.
Navantia Expands Saudi Footprint
The latest support agreement is part of a broader pattern of sustained cooperation between Navantia and Saudi Arabia’s defense sector over the past several years.
In May, the Spanish shipbuilder laid the keel for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces’ seventh AVANTE 2200 corvette.
The vessel is part of a three-ship order placed by Saudi Arabia in 2024, which followed an earlier contract for five corvettes signed in 2022. The fifth and final ship from that initial batch was delivered in March 2024.
