The Slovak Armed Forces has received the final batch of Patria Armored Modular Vehicle (AMV) XPs in ambulance configurations under a contract with Finland.
The government-to-government sale, signed in 2022, includes 10 emergency platforms on top of 60 infantry fighting vehicles and six command post vehicles.
Part of the $447-million arrangement is a technology transfer to boost Slovakia’s local manufacturing base and overall industrial sovereignty.
The deal includes associated ammunition, infrastructure, and logistics services for the military.
“Patria is thankful of excellent cooperation with Slovakia,” said Jussi Järvinen, EVP of protected mobility at Patria. “The completion of these ambulance vehicle deliveries is an important milestone in this cooperation.”
“The program supports the development of modern mobility and defence capabilities… strengthening local industrial capability, security of supply and long-term readiness,” he added.
The Patria AMV XP
The AMV XP is an 8×8 system measuring 9 meters (30 feet) in length, weighing a total of 32,000 kilograms (70,548 pounds), with a payload capacity of 15,000 kilograms (33,069 pounds).
It features a modular hull that can withstand mines, ballistic shells, and improvised explosive devices, and can be armed with a remote weapon system incorporating multiple guns.
The vehicle is equipped with a 600-horsepower diesel engine and an optional electrical generator, supporting speeds over 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and a range of 1,000 kilometers (621 miles).
