Picogrid Raises $45M to Scale Defense Systems Integration Platform

Picogrid, a California-based defense technology company focused on connecting military hardware and software systems, has raised $45 million in a Series A round led by Bessemer Venture Partners.

The company said the funding will be used to expand its product portfolio, increase integration capabilities across additional operational domains, and support deployments with the US military and allied forces.

The round included participation from Washington Harbour and GSBackers, as well as existing investors Initialized Capital, Starburst Ventures, Credo Ventures, Giant Step Capital, Alumni Ventures, and several industry-backed angel investors.

Addressing Military Integration Challenges

Defense organizations are increasingly fielding autonomous systems, sensors, AI tools, and edge computing platforms across the battlespace. But integrating these capabilities into existing military networks remains a significant challenge.

Founded to address such issues, Picogrid develops hardware-enabled software designed to connect sensors, unmanned systems, and digital platforms. 

The company’s technology aims to enable different systems to exchange data and operate through a unified interface.

Picogrid’s platform is currently deployed in support of operations involving US and allied military forces. 

The company said its integration ecosystem includes more than 100 defense systems from both established contractors and newer defense technology firms, including Skydio, Northrop Grumman, Echodyne, CX2, and Neros.

“The systems are getting better, but the seams between them aren’t keeping up,” said Picogrid CEO Zane Mountcastle

“Operators in the field are paying that tax every day, and our job is to take it off them.”

Investors pointed to the increasing number of autonomous systems entering military service as a driver for demand.

“As autonomous systems proliferate across every domain, there’s clear demand for an infrastructure layer that’s hardware-agnostic and interoperable,” said David Cowan, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. 

“Picogrid has built the connective tissue that lets disparate military systems communicate to one another, and it is being used in the field today. We believe they’re on a path to become the next integration prime.”

The growing focus on interoperability reflects broader efforts by the US Department of Defense to incorporate a larger number of autonomous and networked systems into military operations. Programs such as the Pentagon’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control initiative have highlighted the need for platforms capable of linking systems across land, air, sea, space, and cyber domains.
