Syria has established a new National University for Defense Sciences, a centralized institution for higher military education, state-run news agency SANA reported.
The university, announced by Syrian officials during a press conference, will bring together military education under a single structure comprising four colleges and a higher institute focused on defense technology and military leadership.
The institution will train military engineers and commissioned officers for the Syrian Arab Armed Forces in accordance with operational requirements.
It will also oversee a network of military technical institutes that train non-commissioned officers for specialized military roles.
Officials said graduates will receive qualifications recognized as equivalent to diplomas issued by Syria’s Ministry of Higher Education.
Academic Programs
At the senior level, the university will include the National Defense College, the Higher War College, and the Command and Staff College.
These institutions will prepare officers for command, staff, and strategic planning positions.
It will also include dedicated colleges for the air force and the navy, as well as a military academy offering engineering and technical degrees.
Programs will cover a range of disciplines, including computer science, communications, industrial and mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.
Other fields included are mechatronics, cartography, signal engineering, and physical education.
In addition, the College of Humanities and Administrative Sciences will offer courses in defense management, business administration, and international relations.
The curriculum will also include history, geography, and languages.
