Aalyria has signed an agreement to use a new Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility under construction in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The facility is being funded by the US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), with additional support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Regional Industrial Development Corporation.
It is intended to expand commercial companies’ access to secure infrastructure needed for classified government programs.
Aalyria said the agreement will allow it to conduct classified work from Pittsburgh and supports its broader expansion in western Pennsylvania.
The firm plans to grow its workforce by drawing on the region’s expertise in engineering, AI, robotics, and computer science, including talent from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Secure Infrastructure for Classified Programs
The project is part of DIU’s Bridge initiative, which aims to reduce barriers that limit commercial companies’ participation in classified defense programs.
Aalyria said access to the facility will support work involving its Spacetime software platform, which manages communications networks across terrestrial, maritime, airborne, and space-based systems.
The software is designed to route communications in real time, adapt to network disruptions, and coordinate connectivity across multiple domains.
Aalyria has previously worked with DIU, the US Space Force, NASA, other US government agencies, and commercial satellite operators.
