Finland and Sweden have signed an arrangement to prepare for the potential procurement of Patria TRACKX tracked armored personnel carriers.
The deal enables technology cooperation during the vehicle’s pre-series phase.
Patria TRACKX was developed under the multinational FAMOUS program, which receives funding from the European Defence Fund.
The vehicle is designed to operate across a wide range of terrain types, including snow, marshland, and sandy environments, while providing protected mobility for military forces.
Under the arrangement, Finland and Sweden will exchange technical information and collaborate to evaluate the platform.
Any decisions regarding the procurement of pre-series vehicles or future fleet acquisitions will remain subject to separate national assessments and approval processes.
For both countries, the platform is being considered primarily for units that require high mobility in northern and Arctic conditions, where terrain and weather can limit the effectiveness of conventional armored vehicles.
TRACKX Vehicle
Patria launched the TRACKX vehicle at the DSEI exhibition in London in September last year and aims to begin serial production in 2027.
Weighing around 12 tons with a payload capacity of 3.5 tons, TRACKX is designed to transport a crew and up to 10 soldiers.
The vehicle incorporates wide rubber tracks, adjustable hydropneumatic suspension, and a low center of gravity intended to improve stability and maneuverability.
It can be armed with a 12.7mm machine gun and features advanced crew protection, ergonomics, and situational awareness systems.
The platform is being positioned as a potential successor to aging tracked vehicles such as the M113 and MT-LB.
