US Army Taps L3Harris to Supply VAMPIRE Counter-Drone Systems for $106M
The US Army has awarded L3Harris a contract valued at up to $106 million to deliver an unspecified number of VAMPIRE counter-drone systems, supporting the Pentagon’s layered defense approach.
VAMPIRE, which stands for Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment, is a low-cost, self-contained system that delivers advanced reconnaissance and precision strike against enemy drones and remotely piloted aircraft.
It has logged more than 350,000 hours of operational use since Washington ordered 14 VAMPIRE systems bound for Ukraine in 2023, and followed up with additional orders in 2025 to support European operations.
Tom Kirkland, President of Targeting & Sensor Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris, said that the company collaborated with the army to develop counter-drone solutions “that can be quickly assembled, delivered, set up, and fired.”
VAMPIRE
Since L3Harris received its first Pentagon order for the VAMPIRE system in 2023, the anti-drone solution has undergone upgrades, including incorporating a sensor suite powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning.
In 2025, the company launched VAMPIRE variants tailored for land, naval, aerial, and electronic warfare domains.
Featuring plug-and-play architecture, the system has been integrated into GM Defense’s Infantry Squad Vehicle and paired with Thales’ FZ275 70mm laser-guided rockets against ground targets in a demonstration.
In March 2026, L3Harris began scaling VAMPIRE system production at its facility in Huntsville, Alabama, to meet the growing demands for such drone countermeasures.
