UK-based Blighter has secured a follow-on contract from an undisclosed Eastern European military to supply additional A800 Mk 2 multi-mode surveillance radars for border security missions.
The radars are intended to support monitoring of vulnerable border areas by simultaneously detecting, classifying, and tracking ground, maritime, and aerial targets.
According to the company, the systems can operate at ranges of up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles).
With a compact size, weight, and power configuration, the systems will support both fixed-site border surveillance and vehicle-based reconnaissance missions.
The agreement also includes BlighterNexus AI-assisted software, which is designed to integrate radar data with command-and-control networks, operator interfaces, and third-party sensors.
Focus on Low-Altitude Drone Detection
One of the main operational challenges the systems addresses is the detection of low-flying drones, including first-person view drones, fiber-optic-controlled systems, and larger fixed-wing one-way attack drones.
According to Blighter, such targets can be difficult to detect due to their small radar cross-section, low-altitude flight profiles, and their ability to operate close to terrain features.
To address this, the A800 Mk 2 combines Ku-band radar technology, electronically scanned array antennas, and micro-Doppler analysis to classify targets based on movement signatures, such as rotating drone propellers.
The radar can detect nano-quadcopters at ranges of up to 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) and larger fixed-wing drones at up to 7 kilometers (4.3 miles).
Latest Contracts
The latest order follows previous contracts awarded by military customers in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia for the company’s border surveillance radar systems.
In Eastern Europe, the company supplied B400-series ground-surveillance radars, along with BlighterNexus software.
A separate follow-on contract in Southeast Asia covered the delivery of B400 radars for border-monitoring missions.
Designed to enhance situational awareness, the systems support the detection, tracking, and classification of small surface targets and low-flying aerial threats.
