Mobix Labs is set to enter the US drone manufacturing space after signing a binding agreement to acquire Montana-based Vision Aerial, a producer of systems used in defense, public safety, and industrial operations.
The deal positions Vision Aerial as a core platform in Mobix Labs’ push into autonomous systems and aerial intelligence markets. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 2013, Vision Aerial builds platforms around modular payload systems that allow operators to swap sensors depending on mission needs. These include high-resolution imaging, thermal cameras, laser-based mapping tools, and gas detection systems, enabling a single aircraft design to support multiple operational roles.
Mobix Labs CEO Phil Sansone said the development is “a defining move” for the company “just as demand for secure, high-performance drones accelerates around the world.”
“Vision Aerial expands Mobix Labs into one of the most important technology markets in the world and advances the acquisition-led growth strategy we have previously communicated,” he said.
The transaction remains subject to the execution of a definitive agreement, due diligence, and regulatory approvals. Vision Aerial’s leadership is expected to remain in place following completion, and manufacturing will continue in the US.
Firms Expand Drone Acquisitions
The planned acquisition of Vision Aerial reflects a broader trend of companies buying into the fast-growing drone sector rather than building capabilities from scratch.
In May, Canadian drone company Draganfly signed an agreement to acquire assets of Skip Dynamix’s drone business in a deal worth up to $7.5 million.
Earlier, in March, Red Cat Holdings acquired Apium Swarm Robotics to add autonomous swarming capabilities to its unmanned systems, while AeroVironment purchased Empirical Systems Aerospace for about $200 million to expand its drone development and manufacturing capacity.
In January, Elbit Systems UK completed its acquisition of UAV Tactical Systems to strengthen its unmanned systems business in the UK.
