Ohio-based ArmorSource has received a $17.6-million contract to deliver 25,000 next-gen ballistic helmets for the US Army.
Under the contract, ArmorSource will deliver its Advanced Combat Helmet Gen II (ACH Gen II) systems, which provide enhanced ballistic protection while reducing overall weight and improving comfort for soldiers.
Delivery is expected to be excited through May 31, 2028.
“We see this award as a sign of trust from the US government, the US Army, PEO (Program Executive Office) Soldier, and the Defense Logistics Agency,” Government Programs Director at ArmorSource Todd Barnes said.
“This order, together with our ongoing contract for the delivery of 30,000 Advanced Combat Vehicle Crewman helmets, places ArmorSource at the forefront of US government suppliers of advanced lightweight head protection systems.”
Next-Gen Helmet
According to the US Army, the ACH Gen II weighs 22 percent less than the legacy ACH and is designed to protect soldiers from fragmentation and 9mm rounds.
ArmorSource says the helmet can also protect against a range of high-velocity fragments and handgun and rifle projectiles, including 64-grain .22-caliber rounds commonly used in .223 Remington ammunition traveling at speeds of up to 650 meters (2,133 feet) per second.
In addition, the helmet’s outer shell is designed to withstand direct blunt-force impacts while resisting high levels of compression from side to side and top to bottom.
Featuring an areal density (surface weight) below 6.9 kilograms per square meter (1.38 pounds per square foot), the helmet weighs between 1.01 and 1.13 kilograms (2.22 and 2.49 pounds), including the harness and pads.
By comparison, the legacy ACH weighs between 1.36 and 1.72 kilograms (3 and 3.79 pounds).
